Stella started life as a breast. Claudia sat down at the potter's wheel one day with the intent of creating a centered porcelain object...it didn't really matter what it ended up being, as long as it was centered! She had been having great difficulty centering clay on the wheel (perhaps because she herself is not always so centered!) and so decided to challenge herself with the softest, most temperamental clay, which is porcelain. After hours of effort, a small, breastlike object was created. Claudia then used sculpting tools to hollow and scrape the center out of the breast, and added slab petals to create the flower shape. After firing it she added the copper wires in the center as stamens. The white textural additive on the surface of the flower is silica.
Stella belongs to a family member and is not for sale. However, Claudia intends to create similar pieces in the future, and would definitely consider a commission for more ceramic work such as this.
